Rothenburg ob der Tauber: in a word: charming. Flower boxes everywhere, painted buildings detailed to the max, tourists in abundance, Schneeballen to munch on, there are 40 fountains throughout the town (the normal kind that people use to draw water from ....some still have the wooden protective lids firmly in place to keep out bugs and leaves)

This is the famous view of Rothenburg....the 'crooked house'.
We were standing along the city wall in the evening when the Nightwatchman walking tour passed by us. The watchman was dressed in a medieval cloak and cap, and carried a lit lantern. He did not speak a word, we only heard the swish of the fabric as he walked by...the crowd of tourists following were quiet...until the stragglers at the end who were having good conversations!
